About Turmeric
Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a member of the ginger family and has been valued as a culinary spice and in traditional practices for thousands of years. Its characteristic golden colour comes largely from naturally occurring compounds known as curcuminoids.
The best known of these, curcumin, has been extensively researched for its antioxidant properties and its interaction with inflammatory processes. I have a compromised immune system, being on biological drugs, am ancient and constantly have pneumonia or chest infections. I always seem to be on antibiotics and steroids. I wanted a natural expectorant and natural honey with turmeric was recommended by a doctor at my surgery. Every morning I cut a large lemon into a cup, removing any pips, I cover the lemon with hot water from the kettle and when I have done that I add a couple of teaspoons of the honey with turmeric. Throughout the day, I top up the cup with hot water and turmeric honey. It’s a very comforting drink and actually works to dislodge phlegm. This is the first time in years I have not required antibiotics.
My daughter also had a chest infection and heavy cold. She too, found the lemon and turmeric honey excellent. It’s worth having a large jar at home, especially during the winter months.
