Interesting Facts #9 “How the Bees Make Honey”

The Bees have glands which secrete an enzyme, known as ‘bee enzyme’. The nectar the bees collect from flowers or other nectariferous is mixed with the bee enzyme. Back at the bee hive the nectar is passed from one bee to another, further mixing the nectar with bee enzyme, then is dropped in to wax cells, called honeycomb. These are hexagonal shaped cells that the bees make out of beeswax and use it as a storage for the honey.

Easy, but elegant this recipe is perfect to be served, as a starter or a snack at any time.
Ingredients:
4 Figs
Few slices bread
Goat Cheese
Honey
Preparation:
Cut 8 thin slices of bread and toast lightly – we used a walnut & sunflower seed bread and it contributed a lot to the amazing taste, but it will be as good with your preferable bread.
Generously spread the toast with goat’s cheese and add a few slices of a fresh figs.
Drizzle with honey and serve.
We used a lavender honey, which blended very well and gave a fresh aromatic finish.

Delicious with Honey #3 “Stuffed Baked Apples with Nuts and Honey”

Juice baked apples – the perfect desert in cold or warm weather. Delicious and healthy. The apples are rich in soluble and insoluble fiber that enable healthy metabolism and food digestion. In combination with nuts and honey it gets even better!
Ingredients:
4 apples
4 teaspoons honey
80g of crushed nuts as desired
cinnamon, vanilla extract
Preparation:
Wash apples and remove the inner part with a paring knife. If desired, you can cut in half and remove the core.
Place nuts and honey in a bowl. If desired, add cinnamon and vanilla extract Mix well. Fill apples with this mixture of nuts and honey.
Arrange stuffed apples in a pan coated with baking paper. Bake in a preheated oven at 200 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes until apples soften. Serve while warm.

We used Coriander Honey which has full bodied taste with notes of spicy caramel and blended fantastically well in these recipe.
